Lyme borreliosis is a bacterial parasitosis transmitted to humans during a hard tick bite of the genus ixodes, itself infected with a bacteria of the genus Borrelia, the Borrelia Burgdorferi. Most often asymptomatic, the disease can cause neurological, dermatological, joint and more rarely cardiac or ophthalmic disorders. It can affect various organs or impact multiple body systems.

Although infectious, Lyme disease is not contagious. It can express themselves and evolve for many years. These demonstrations have been grouped in 3 different stadiums, which can overlap for certain symptoms.Lyme borreliosis is part for the invsis of priority zoonoses because of its incidence (27,000 cases estimated per year in France), its potential risk of serious sequelae, the existence of effective early treatment and manyPrevention opportunities.

La maladie de Lyme

The term borreliosis has been chosen to characterize the parasitosis transmitted in Europe by the ticks of Ricinus ixodes and distinguish it from Lyme disease which is transmitted in North America by the ticks ixodes Scapularis and Pacificus.
